Tromso
Remembering my other camera I picked it up and had a play. These images are of the port itself.
The coaches gather. As yet we haven't had clearance for the gangway to be lowered and the guides and drivers have to be tested before we are allowed on board.
I would love to come and stay in Tromso for a few days and just experience it. As you can see, the weather is quite different and the temperatures too. It was certainly thermal leggings and vest, jumper and a good insulated coat. The one part I found got cold whatever were my hands and many of us discovered they dried out and chapped very quickly. I ended up going into a chemist and buying some specialised hand cream to offset the problem.
The round building is an observatory I think, can't remember there was so much here and honestly, a couple of days would only scratch the surface.
I bought myself a long-lens [55 to 300] for the trip and was playing with it. As it happened the shots came out better than expected.
As soon as I could I was off the ship and onto the courtesy bus into Tromso itself. I was due to go on an excursion but not until the afternoon so ice stick in hand and having watched the talk about the place I went in hunt of various paces. First of all the High street, the shoppers, the polite drivers and just the cleanness of the place.
Taking a right I headed back towards the shoreline and watched a Japanese couple enjoying the place. There were many small outlets advertising Northern Lights tours and some guaranteed a sighting or you got a free trip as compensation.
I had a glorious morning just wandering but looking at the time I headed back to the shuttle bus stop to have lunch and then get ready for my afternoon trip.....
